Bomb Threat via Telephone

  • Keep the threat maker on the line as long as possible. Ask him or her to repeat the message.
  • Obtain as much information from the threat maker as possible (checklist form is attached ):
    • Exact time the call is received
    • Exact location of bomb
    • Time of detonation
    • Outside appearance or description of bomb
    • Reason for planting it
    • Do not interrupt the caller while he/she is talking
    • Note the caller’s exact wordsListen for background noises that may help determine where the call was madeListen to the voice (male/female), voice quality (calm, excited, etc.), accents and speech impediments
    • Ask him/her to repeat the message, if possible
  • Tell the caller that the building is occupied and the bomb might cause serious injury or the deaths of many innocent people.
  • Call the police at 911, give them as much of the following information as possible:
    • Your name
    • Your location
    • Your phone number
    • Time of bomb threat
    • Name of anyone listening in on the threat callName and work location of any employee threatened by the caller
    • Time bomb is supposedly set to explode
